Spring musing

Krysta and I spent Saturday driving to Idaho and back. Along the way we enjoyed seeing the newborn calves. One of my favorite things about spring is seeing the tiny newborn animals with their mothers. Two years ago at the ranchette across the road, the brown mare had a baby. It was the sweetest sight to watch the baby follow its mother around the pasture. Now I can't tell which is mother and which is child.
I'm feeling the same thing watching my own little "ducks" leave the nest. We dropped off Katrina on Saturday for another semester at BYU-I. It was so good to see her confidently meeting people and taking care of herself. This week we will be seeing Staci off to Japan to study for a semester abroad. (The same Staci as, "I've been meaning to tell you I'm dating someone ". That would be a whole different story though.)
I love seeing them grow and succeeding independently. But my nest feels so empty.

They are growing up, aren't they? I agree that it is both a happy thing and a sad thing. I need to start thinking of some hobbies to prepare for when our little guys abandon us. :) It is so interesting to me because I feel like it wasn't that long ago when I was in that college age too, but it kind of was. :)
